This is the 2017 Operation Awakening II’s new logo. The logo has different elements that represent different things to this operation. The most prominent thing you will see is the Valkyrie wings cradling the Injured Marine logo. Next Operation Awakening II “The Long Patrol”.
The Valkyrie comes from Nords mythology. The Valkyrie is the chooser of the slain, and is one of a host of female figures who choose those who may die in battle and those who may live. Selecting half of those who die in battle, the Valkyries bring their chosen to the afterlife hall of the slain, Valhalla, ruled over by the god Odin.
With that said, these wings have always had a dual meaning for Operation Awakening and those involved.
Like the winged mythological women who assist the fallen from the battlefield, the ladies of The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund assist the warrior from battlefield to their final destination. Home! So the wings you see in the logo represent the women of the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund (IMSFF) who cradle our wounded and their families till they are safe and adjusted to their new lives.
When I created Operation Awakening, I spent considerable time researching worthy military 501c 3 non for profit organizations. What I wanted was to put my heart and soul into an organization that has immediate impact to the warriors life. There are many military non for profits out there and after spending months I found The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. As a fund raiser I wanted to put 100% effort into raising awareness and funds for this charity. I viewed myself as a Valkyrie of sorts… Operation Awakening swooped down and chose this worthy charity. An organization made up of angels who assisted my brothers and sisters. So now it is OPA’s turn to cradle the needs of our wounded and their families. And it is all done through The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
THE INJURED MARINE SEMPER FI FUND LOGO
The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund logo in the center represents the organization I choose to support through my efforts. The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post 9/11 wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their families, ensuring that they have the resources they need during their recovery and transition back to their communities. We work to ensure that no one is left behind.
OPERATION AWAKENING II
June 25th 2016 OPA II “The Long Patrol”, will commence operation. Our goal this time is to raise $100,000 for The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund (501c3). 100% of all proceeds will go directly to the Semper Fi Fund. Some may think the $100,000 target might be lofty, but I raised $55,000 in 9 months. This time we’re doubling the amount and doubling the time frame to raise it. June 2017, the ground phase of Operation Awakening II will commence. I will step off at the US (WA) and Canada border and walk through the entire Pacific Crest Trail to the US (CA) and Mexico border (2,600 miles). The entire trek will take me approximately 4 months. At the end of the hike I will end all operations at Camp Pendleton CA home of The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and 1st Marine Division. Estimated time of arrival 11/10/2017.
THE LONG PATROL
As a Marine I understand the real meaning of “humps”. A hump is the cornerstone of what makes up a good “patroller”. In boot camp you are immediately introduced to marching. If you think about it, its the introduction of force marches. In a force march you and about 100 plus other marines head off to conquer a 25 mile of hike (hump) with full battle rattle. I will say, if there is one thing that makes a Marine a tough mother, its gotta be all the miles we’ve humped. From boot camp to the fleet, there is always a 1st Sgt who is ALWAYS motivated to walk 25 miles, loaded down with 70lbs of gear… Oh yeah, and its 105 degrees in North Carolina. OOO RAH MARINE CORP!!!
So I take a chapter from my beloved Marine Corps and those hard charging NCO’s who lived for the hump. On June (date TBD), 2017 I will step off the Canada & US border and trek (hump) in a southbound direction for 2,600 miles along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Upon crossing the US & Mexico border the patrol will change direction of travel and maintain a heading to the final objective, Camp Pendelton. Home of 1st Marine Division and HQ of The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
Like I said, OOOOO RAH MARINE CORPS!!!…. Lets see how that sounds in November of 2017.
