Operation Awakening was created by Tim Tuomey to raise awareness and funding to help improve the health and welfare of our returning post-9/11 Marines and Sailors. The fundraising event started and ended with a 3,164 mile bicycle ride beginning at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport California, and ending at his old home base of 2nd Marine Division in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Tim began the fund raising portion in Sept, 2011 and set his target goal at $50,000. At the end of the ride (62 days later, 3,325 miles) Tim was able to achieve his goal and exceed it (grand total $55,242). Tim’s charity was the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund a 501(c)(3) organization. Through the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund Tim was able to raise awareness and funding for our wounded Marines, Sailors and their families.100% of all the funds raised went directly to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
